24 Hours with an Engineering Manager
I wake up at 6:30 am to prepare breakfast for the whole family. My child recently started attending kindergarten, so he takes a snack also prepared by me. I take a break to enjoy tea with my family, which is one of the best parts of my day and fills me with positive energy.
Once my child leaves for kindergarten at 8:30 am, I can focus on my chores until 9:00 or 9:30 am, after which I resume work. My schedule varies depending on the project and clients, but I typically start my day by checking my emails to identify my priority tasks.
As an engineering manager responsible for two different projects, I set my schedule based on the day's workload and my team's progress. I use the mornings for concentration and research, dealing with technical issues, or tackling team-related matters. I spend at least four hours a day interacting with my team since my work revolves around team efforts.
I usually finish work around 6 or 6:30 pm, after which I spend quality time with my child, playing together, or visiting a play area. I then log in again at night for pending client meetings.
A Successful Engineer Harnesses Curiosity
As an Engineering/Delivery Manager, my work involves owning end-to-end project delivery. I am closely involved in application design and solutioning, as well as mentoring my team in project planning and execution. Additionally, I work to establish engineering best practices at the Business Unit level and collaborate with presales to prepare RFPs. With a strong foundation in Java, my expertise extends beyond the backend realm as an engineering manager. I handle end-to-end solutioning, encompassing frontend, backend, database, and more.
The most critical aspect of my technical role is staying up to date with the latest technological trends to provide the best solutions for our clients. As a service-based company with a broad client domain spectrum, it's essential that we remain agile and adaptable to various technology practices. Each client project presents a unique challenge when it comes to execution, but continuously upskilling myself and accepting new challenges is what makes my work exciting.
My curiosity also plays a significant role in my work. Whenever I encounter a new technical or non-technical term, I add it to my notes. Whenever I have free time in my work schedule, I select one of these notes and dive deep into the topic, keeping myself updated with the latest industry developments and standards.
Work-Life Balance with a Three-Year-Old Child
As a member of a traditional Indian family, my daily routine revolves around my child's needs and my work schedule, while also accommodating my in-laws who live with me.
For breakfast, I usually make traditional North Indian dishes such as Poha, Upma, Vermicelli, or sandwiches with shakes or coffee.
Working from home has enabled me to attend meetings while holding my baby, and I find it magical. Sometimes my baby calls out in the middle of my meetings, but my colleagues understand and support me.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, when daycares were not operational, Encora allowed me to work from home, work half days, and extend my maternity leave for two months, enabling me to continue my career and take care of my child.
I am grateful for Encora's support in managing my work and family responsibilities. I work from home, allowing me to be with my child and accommodate his needs, such as naptime or feeding, without sacrificing work hours. I work closely with my husband to ensure that we balance our work schedules and take care of our child together.

I am an old-school person who loves to write notes with pen and paper to keep track of my tasks. I am fascinated by technology like AI and enjoy exploring new things in my free time.
In the book "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead," Sheryl Sandberg mentions that delivering a baby is one of the hardest challenges for a human being. When I read that, I was inspired, and it became something very settled in my mind that I would be up to the task and its emotional ups and downs, and that I would never put my career on hold.
After I had my child, I felt like I returned to work and made a comeback. My manager and the whole team welcomed me back enthusiastically and made me feel like I was able to show my professional capabilities just as before.
I can now proudly say that I am growing much better than before, and I feel that there is nothing that can stop me.
